Master the art of attracting local customers and turning 'near me' searches into loyal patrons with tips and tools
Published on September 6, 2023
Apple Maps, the integrated navigation application on over 1.2 billion iPhones worldwide, caters to users who are constantly on the move. Many rely on this app to discover a wide range of services, whether it's a restaurant, legal assistance, or a new pair of shoes. If you have a business, you can make it easier for clients and customers to find it by adding it to Apple Maps. Depending on the business you own or operate, it might already be listed. But if it's not, Apple offers an easy-to-use tool to add any physical location in about 1,600 commerce categories. Here's how you can either claim your existing Apple Maps business listing or add your business from scratch.
Begin by opening your web browser and visiting the Apple Business connect website.
In the search field, type your business's name.
If your business's name doesn't appear in the dropdown menu, select "Add a missing place."
If necessary, sign in using your Apple ID and agree to the terms of use.
On the "Add a Missing Place" page, input all your business details, including the business name, phone number, and category. Then, click "Next."
Navigate to the upper right corner of the page and select "Verify Ownership." Enter your business information, including the phone number and address.
Click "Next."
On the "Choose a primary contact for your business" page, provide your contact information and click "Save and continue."
To verify your ownership, allow Apple to make an automated call to your business's phone number and enter the four-digit code provided. Click "Done."
Apple will review the information you provided, and upon approval, your business will be added to Apple Maps.
Absolutely! It's highly recommended. Offering customers precise and current details minimizes their inconvenience and eliminates barriers that might deter them from engaging with your business, whether it's visiting your restaurant for brunch or exploring your website to discover more about your offerings.
Feel free to update your Apple Maps listing whenever your contact information or operating hours change or when you introduce enticing new products or services that users would love to know about.
The first essential step in optimizing your Apple Maps listings is to provide accurate information about your local business. Apple Business Connect offers the opportunity to input details like your business name, address, and phone number (NAP) on the Apple Maps place card. You can also add supplementary information such as website URLs, operating hours, and business categories. Ensure all the information in your local listings is up-to-date and accurate.
If you manage multiple locations, you're likely aware of the significance of reputation management. Yelp reviews are prominently displayed on your business's Apple Maps place card. Interestingly, 97 percent of review readers pay attention to how businesses respond to reviews, and when it comes to negative reviews, 87 percent of consumers are willing to reconsider if the business responds effectively. This data underscores the importance of monitoring and responding to reviews on your Apple Maps place cards.

Showcases, a recent addition to the Apple Maps place card, enables businesses to showcase offers and incentives like seasonal menu items or product discounts. Updating this Showcase section through Business Connect allows you to share promotional content, aligning with what you might already create for other search and social platforms. For instance, if your gym is offering a free month of membership for new sign-ups, you can highlight this in your Showcase. Leveraging Showcases can give your brand an advantage.
By including relevant keywords, you can increase the visibility of your local listings on Apple Maps. Start with thorough keyword research to identify the terms that resonate with your target audience. Once you've compiled a list of essential keywords, incorporate them into your Apple Maps listings and when responding to Yelp reviews. This strategic use of keywords can enhance your online visibility for relevant searches. However, avoid overloading your content with keywords; use them naturally in your content or review responses.
